A Family Visit to Mukilteo Lighthouse Park

Beach views, picnic shelters and practical tips for a fall waterfront day

Mukilteo Lighthouse Park is an easy place to build a simple family outing around the water. The park sits beside the ferry terminal, with Puget Sound views, space for a picnic and room to slow down without planning a full day of activities.

Fall visits can be cooler and windier than neighborhoods only a few miles inland. Pack layers, check the forecast and leave time for kids to watch ferries, boats and birds along the shoreline.

What the park offers

  • Waterfront grounds and beach access
  • Public restrooms near the boat launch
  • Paid parking in Lighthouse Park and nearby downtown streets
  • Three reservable picnic shelters, with surrounding grounds and restrooms open to the public
  • Barbecue and fire pit areas maintained by the city
  • A public boat launch
  • A beach volleyball court with seasonal reservations
  • Nearby restaurants and stores close to the park entrance

Hours and parking

From October 1 through April 30, Lighthouse Park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The City of Mukilteo lists paid parking at $3 per hour in the park and on downtown streets. Parking is free with a visible accessible parking permit. Posted rules and payment instructions at the park are the final word on the day of your visit.

A simple family plan

Start with a short walk near the waterfront and let the kids choose what to watch: the ferry, birds, waves or boats. Follow that with a snack or picnic. On colder days, keep the outing intentionally short and pair it with a warm drink or meal nearby.

  • Bring a wind resistant outer layer.
  • Pack a towel or spare socks if your kids like getting close to the water.
  • Keep little children close near the shoreline and boat launch.
  • Check the parking page before leaving.
  • Reserve a picnic shelter for gatherings rather than assuming one will be available.

Good to know

The city confirms restrooms, parking, picnic shelters, fire pits, a boat launch and volleyball facilities. A skate park and trail system are not listed as Lighthouse Park amenities on the current official pages, so plan this as a waterfront and picnic outing.
